D-cal's
first few steps into the world of music were
forced by his mother. The strange fact is that, before
becoming a hip hop emcee, D-cal used to sing under
his real name, Richard.
He started with a private vocal coach ,and
then went
on to take lessons at Ryan Cayabyab's training center.
The boy, Richard, even sang the Philippine National
Anthem at Meralco Theatre.
It was in
high school where Richard met Syxx
the Northstar. Syxx led Richard into the world of
hip
hop. The nickname, D-cal, turned into an emcee name.
They formed a hip hop group called "Archonz Akeen"
with several other emcees.
In 2003, Archonz Akeen joined forces with the
independent Filipino hip hop camp, Absolute Messages
Personified Over Noise (AMPON). Archonz Akeen later disbanded. All of them remained in AMPON as solo acts.
